In short - the gospel is good news. In fact, the word gospel means “good news.”
If the gospel is good news, then that means there is some bad news. The bad news is sin - wrongdoings, evil, a rebellion against God that causes harm to everything that it touches. All of us have been bruised by it, but have also scarred others and ourselves with it ( Genesis 3, John 3:4, Joshua 1:18, Romans 5:12, 6:23). The greatest problem in our world is sin. The good news of the gospel is that through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, humanity is forgiven of sin, if we accept it by confessing our wrongdoings, turning away from sin and believing in Jesus (1 John 1:9, Ephesians 1:7, John 3:16).
The gospel is the good news of God’s redeeming love and the accomplishment of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, which delivers us from being participants in bad news to being recipients of good news. The Gospel reveals Satan’s schemes to destroy our life and God’s promise to restore us back to life
